Pastor Monaghan was called in August of 2002 by Staunton Orthodox Presbyterian Church of Staunton, Virginia, in order
to labor in Charlottesville for a new OPC church plant, Providence OPC.

Before taking the call to work as a church planter in Charlottesville, Pastor Monaghan worked as a software engineer in San Diego, California. After completing a Masters of Divinity degree from Westminster Seminary in California in 2001, Pastor Monaghan completed a one year internship at Bayview OPC in Chula Vista, California. When Providence became a separate OPC congregation in January of 2007, the congregation of Providence called Pastor Monaghan to be their pastor.
